Last summer I posted information regarding the ability to remove the magnetic lock nut protection caps on the Dency 2000 wheel lock system. Since I was into the brake upgrade, I finally got a chance to get my camera phone and demonstrate how I removed them without the manufacturer's actual magnetic removal tool.

Somewhere in transit from Fresno to Buffalo, the original magnetic key was either misplaced by the previous owner, or by myself. Had a lot of boxes filled with parts and such that came with the car. The previous owner swears he sent it along and I'm sure he probably did. In any event, I had some wheel shake in the front end and wanted to have the wheels road force balanced but couldn't get the magnetic cover caps off to get to the lock nut. I tried just about every magnet I could get my hands on and wile at my friends garage up on the lift, I was rooting through his tool box and stumbled across some tool retrieval magnets in one drawer. I had nothing to lose so I gave it a shot. I think the first one I picked up did the trick in one or two tries. I'm sure it didn't work as well as the correct original because it was a little harder to get the cap off after it released inside the lug hole of the wheel. Needles to say, I got them all off in a matter of two minutes.

I am not posting this to cast any dispersions on Dency's security system. Even without the cap I think someone would be hard pressed to be able to remove the lock nut based on how deep (at least on my wheels) the nut sits and the complexity of the splines that need to line up with the lock nut socket. Some might disagree but I am no thief so that's my opinion. I tried to order a replacement through Nengun and had some issues with their ability to get their hands on one in a timely fashion. I won't open that can of worms as I'm now realize that some of that thread and rant was due to my aggravation of having a new toy that's shakes like Shakira at 60 mph.

In any event I am posting a link to youtube, as I don't have the computer savy to paste it right to the post page. Just some information for those of you who didn't believe me last summer.
